Big Idea Ventures, the world’s most active food tech investor, has acquired the assets of Vevolution—a leading investment platform and marketplace for agrifoodtech startups and investors. The acquisition strengthens Big Idea Ventures’ global infrastructure to support the broader startup and innovation ecosystem.
Founded in 2017 by UK entrepreneurs Damien Clarkson and Judy Nadel, Vevolution began as an events and media platform and evolved into a global investment platform in 2020 with the support of tech entrepreneur and alt-protein investor Michiel van Deursen. Under the leadership of CEO Erik Amundson and CTO Tristan Hartman, Vevolution has facilitated more than $60M in capital raises for companies such as MeliBio, Fermify, Boston Bioprocess, POSEIDONA, Opalia, and De Novo Foodlabs. Vevolution today serves over 8,000 users, including 2,200 startups and 1,000 investors globally. Its integration into Big Idea Ventures creates a powerful platform for connecting the best technologies, founders, and investors around the world.
Big Idea Ventures, managing over $150M and with over 150 portfolio companies, will use its global expertise to enhance Vevolution’s reach and impact through strategic partnerships. The acquisition reflects BIV’s commitment to building the infrastructure needed to scale innovation in AgriFoodTech and Climate Tech, as well as adjacent sectors including Biotech, Next-Gen Materials, and Sustainable AI.
Damien Clarkson, Judy Nadel, and Michiel van Deursen commented: “Today marks a major milestone for Vevolution. We’re excited for the platform’s new chapter with Big Idea Ventures, a great partner to boost its global reach and assist more startups and investors.”
Andrew D. Ive, Founder and Managing General Partner of Big Idea Ventures, stated, “Our mission is to support entrepreneurs, scientists, and engineers to tackle the world’s biggest challenges. We believe bringing together the global innovation ecosystem is essential to supporting the breakthrough solutions the world needs. As we build ecosystems in key regions around the world, Vevolution will be a powerful platform to support innovation and collaboration—across AgriFoodTech, Climate Tech, Biotech and other key sectors in the Bio-Economy.”
