New Protein Fund Accelerator
We invest USD$200K ($125K USD cash and $75K USD of in-kind value-adds) in the world’s best alternative protein companies twice per year. Over a 5 month period, we work side by side with our portfolio companies to help them prepare for massive growth and scale. Pre-Covid, our locations in New York City and Singapore allowed us to bring in world class mentors, advisors, investors, along with hungry customers. Post-Covid, we added a Paris accelerator location and have given our portfolio companies more access to global mentors and investors, providing all of our companies with the industry connections they need to make sure their products can scale to match their global ambitions.

THE PROGRAM

Twice a year, we select the best alternative protein startups to undergo a rigorous 5-month accelerator program in New York City, Singapore or Paris. Through our program, we aim to help our companies break barriers on product development, scaling and distribution, market entry, channel development, pitching and fundraising. We make sure you have everything you need to succeed at scale both domestically and globally.

HOW

Having led other food accelerators, we went back to the drawing board and created a new approach to make sure you get the support you need to succeed. Our program combines capital and partnership in the form of mentor engagement, team building, peer support and access to an active network to help your company grow rapidly. Areas of focus include the whole spectrum of support for high growth food companies. Key areas of focus include those where young companies often have the toughest challenges. These areas of support include product improvement by leveraging on our in-house food scientists and also scaling production by bringing experts and partners in to support our portfolio companies.

Their unique processes focus on maximizing functionality, nutrition, and re-valorisation of all components extracted from pulse seeds.

Food Squared is a plant based company who formulate whole cut fish alternatives using novel 3D printing. Their biomimicry technology enables higher precision and quicker throughput than conventional whole cut manufacturing methods and has the potential to be fully tunable which can be adapted to create models for different species with different taste, texture and nutrition profiles. They also utilize ingredients with a lower carbon footprint to offer new and better tastes and textures.

NouBio is a biotech company focusing on the development of sustainable, cost-effective, and animal-free products for scalable cell culture in cultivated meat, cell therapy, and vaccine production businesses. Their fetal bovine serum (FBS) replacement is 95% more cost-effective than traditional FBS. In addition, they provide an edible and biodegradable microcarrier for scalable cell growth in bioreactors.

Thrilling Foods manufactures and sells Bakon, a patented bacon alternative made from soy milk that is traditionally salt cured and hardwood smoked, both DTC on their website and B2B to grocery stores and restaurants. Bakon is composed of both fatty and lean layers that constitute a very similar texture and macronutrient value as traditional pork bacon.

SHOCKEN Foods is a London-based gourmet vegan meat manufacturer focusing on deli slices and pizza toppings like pepperoni. The company's roadmap is built for speed and maximum impact. Their strategy focuses on key global partnerships and high volume accounts in the foodservice and pizza sectors. Backed with Michelin credentials and skills, they have the expertise to create indulgent, taste addictive flavor formulas.

Niskus Biotec specialises in providing food companies with affordable, sustainable and functional food ingredients. Their first product MycoGrain is a mushroom mycelium enhanced protein ingredient. MycoGrain is suitable for a broad range of food products such as bakery, alternative meat & dairy. Niskus provides food manufactures with improved functionality through tailored taste, texture, aroma & nutraceuticals.

Mycosortia specializes in turning food side streams that are unfit for human consumption into edible alternative protein products using microbial consortia fermentation. They supply microbial fermented and plant-based proteins as green labeled food ingredients via B2B partnerships. They also formulate and supply alternative protein food products to customers using upcycled food ingredients via B2B and B2B2C sales.

Loki Foods specializes in using 100% renewable energy to produce plant-based alternative-seafood products in Iceland, the seafood capital of the world. They will launch plant-based white fish (analogue of Atlantic Cod) in 2023, as well as a line of seafood products to replace conventional seafoods.

ImpacFat specializes in the production of cultivated fat to greatly enhance the flavor, texture, aroma and nutrition of alternative protein products. This is the first company with a focus on fish cell-based fat. The team has filed IP for their technology and currently works on scale-up manufacturing and optimisation of the taste and nutritional values of novel foods.

The company designs intelligent electronic, thermal, kinetic, optical, sensor/telemetric systems and sleek UI/UX experiences from the ground up.

Algrow Biosciences makes the most sustainable and nutritious dairy alternatives, with microalgae. Their technology tackles target molecules in microalgae linked to offnotes and green pigment. The "full stack" solution spans from proprietary strain, bioprocess design to formulation. Algrow's dairy satiates and nourishes consumers with complete proteins, Omega-3, iron and other essential nutrients.

Genuine taste is a cell agriculture company focused on fat production. We add taste, aroma, and texture to alternative meat products, giving them the 'meatiness' that makes them delicious and savory. Founded in 2020 and based in Paris, STANDING OVATION aims to become a key player in the food transition. The company develops the production of dairy proteins by precision fermentation and their transformation into non-animal and lactose-free substitutes for cheese and dairy products. Standing Ovation is one of the very rare companies capable of producing animal-free caseins, with a production at Industrial Pilot scale.

Meatless Kingdom develops Indonesian-inspired foods and snacks from locally-sourced plant-based ingredients that are both tasty and nutritious. They. use technology that can combine and maximize the beneficial properties of mushroom and soy in order to create affordable plant-based meat products which have meaty texture and taste. Their products are also high in protein, low in gluten, non-MSG and are Halal and BPOM certified.

The Leaf Protein Co. uses novel science and technology to unlock the planet’s most abundant source of protein, Rubisco, from leafy greens. Their aim is to build a library of functional, protein-rich ingredients from sustainable sources in a market which currently lacks biodiverse and allergen-free plant protein ingredients. Their first protein, a foaming and gellingaid, is produced from leafy crop by products.

Wild Earth is a sustainable, science-driven pet food company on a mission to end the use of animals in pet food.

Pleese Foods develops a dairy-free cheese made from a unique blend of all-natural plant-based ingredients.

Pearlita Foods is building the future of seafood. They use cellular agriculture to sustainably and ethically grow Oysters without compromising flavour or nutrition.

Optimized Foods harnesses the form, function, and structure of mycelium to grow better, healthier foods. Using their technology platform, they are creating compelling products starting with shelf-stable boba tea and cell-cultured caviar.

Alt Atlas created a machine learning bioplatform that sources functional ingredients and solutions for the alternative meat and dairy industry. CF Foods Group develops CPG products that are cruelty and conflict-free, utilizing cultivated proteins as core ingredients. The first range of products is premium dog treats, a blend of cultured meat and plant-based ingredients that are better for people, the planet, and our pups. CF Foods aims to be among the first to market cultivated CPG products in both the US and Asia.

Pullulo develops microbial protein for various food applications. Their innovative protein is highly nutritious yet affordable, allergen-free, non-GMO, vegan, and Halal and is less susceptible to supply chain disruptions. Many of their products also integrate agricultural bioproducts, upcycling our waste in the process. Pullulo is targeting both the alternative protein mass market and the underserved healthcare catering and food services.

Kabocha Milk Co. unlocks the incredible health properties of Kabocha (pumpkin/squash) in ready-to-eat formats. Their first product, the award-winning Kabochamilk, is 100% vegan and free of preservatives, artificial colours & flavor, and provides 50% of your daily Vitamin A in a single serve. Co-funded by the NZ government, the team is also developing an alternative protein meat pattie from the 15,000 tonnes of imperfect grown Kabocha per year that goes to stock food; and from the waste stream of the creation of Kabocha Milk.

More Foods specializes in creating functional plant-based proteins with bioactive ingredients and innovative protein modification technology. Their products are made with a variety of plants and fungi which gives consumers an alternative to soy, and their method of formulation allows for products that are low in sodium, lightly processed, tasty and functional. All of this is achieved using environmentally friendly ingredients and a zero-waste production process.

UMAMI UNITED specializes in Japanese-inspired plant-based food using unique and innovative Japanese ingredients. Their first product - the UMAMI EGG - is made with konjac powder and has umami flavour added to it thanks to an innovative enzyme process. UMAMI strives for clean labels in their products and has made them buddhist-friendly to ensure deeper penetration of the greater China market.

Genesea produces high-quality ingredients from macro-algae for the food industry. The algal-protein is extracted from seaweeds, offering consumers a carbon-negative, arable land-free, fertilizer-free, pesticide-free, and gluten-free protein alternative. Their strong scalable technology, backed by industrial experience, three patents and dozens of scientific publications, allows them to optimize both the cultivation and the extraction parts of the business, and reach 92% biomass recovery of raw material into useful ingredients.

Mewery is the first European cell-based food tech startup developing cultivated pork on a microalgae base. Their unique technology aims to break down barriers to scaling and accelerating the cultivated meat industry. They are developing a porcine cell line for a proprietary hybrid media which doesn't require FBS and uses microalgae growth factors to lower the production costs of cultivated meat significantly.

Nutropy produces milk proteins identical to those found in cow's milk to create premium French cheeses that taste as good as conventional ones while supporting the environment, animal welfare, and human health. Cultivated Biosciences developed a strong technology to create an ingredient that adds creaminess to plant-based dairy without the need for GMO. The Very Food Co’s founder is a 4th generation food entrepreneur with a strong network in distribution, manufacturing and sales.

Bright Biotech has a proprietary light-driven, protein expression technology that uses chloroplasts to make extraordinarily high yields of proteins in plants. This game-changing manufacturing system is sustainable, free of animal pathogens and bacterial endotoxins, and highly scalable. It is suitable for the recombinant protein contract manufacturing and development market. Bright Biotech is currently producing recombinant growth factors, which aid cell growth to promote regenerative medicine practices, and also industry processes such as clean meat production.

Green-On was founded with the mission to provide sustainable ingredients to the food industry. Food production stands for at least 20% of the green-house gases already today. WHO predicts that the world population reaches 10 billion people in 2050. A great global challenge is to produce more food to an increasing population with a reduced environmental impact. We are developing a disruptive technology that bypasses agricultural processes such as animal husbandry and palm tree plantations for production of food ingredients. There is no land use associated with our process, limited amount of fresh water, no fertilizers, no pesticides. In addition, the process can provide food security. Green-On is using a patented technology and processes that are more sustainable than alternatives. In the process we use electricity, carbon dioxide and water to directly synthesize saturated triglycerides without any organisms (no cultivation, no GMO’s are used). We produce the same molecules as found in dairy, palm oil and coconut oil. Green-On is a business-to-business company and focusing on products for the processed food industry.

Fisheroo is Southeast Asia’s first cell-based fish company focusing on the 5B huge surimi industry. Currently in the R&D phase, we have been able to develop our proprietary cell line within just 1 month in a state-of-the-art facility based in Singapore and we are now on track towards a prototype within the next 12 months. Our plan is to create surimi at scale and sell it as an ingredient via a business-business relation to existing surimi product manufacturers & potentially integrating with innovative plant-based companies. All this wouldn’t have been possible without the team and as biologists who have extensive scientific know-how, the hardest challenges are tackled with the best strategy.
